Our Garden....

picture of day lily

Our garden consists of many oriental, asiatic and day lilies. They bloom over a long period and are very prolific with a variety of colors. The flowers are very elegant and have a wonderful fragrance. We have 55 hybrid tea roses which are the most popular rose in the world. These roses are valued for their long, sturdy stems and perfectly shaped flowers as well as their glorious fragrance. Some of our more popular roses are: Tropicana, Mr. Lincoln, Peace, Voodoo, Garden Party, Friendship, Midas Touch and Purple Passion.

We also have three varieties of asian pears which are called apple pears. They differ from the traditional pear in that they are usually round and firm to the touch when ripe. They will be crisp, slightly sweet and juicy and best when tree ripened. Each of our varieties ripen at a different time so that we are provided with this delicious fruit summer long and into autumn. We have several Fuyu Persimmon trees. The Fuyu is a non-astringent variety and is sweet and delicious when it becomes bright reddish orange. It is thought to have originated in China. The Fuyu is of the genus Diospyros: "Dios" means God and "Pyros" means grain or food, thus the reference to persimmon as the food for the gods. The Fuyu is considered an acceptable gift to the Buddha. Finally, we have a variety of citrus ranging from oranges, seville oranges, grapefruit, lemons, meyer lemons, keylimes and kumquats.
